Drake Daviau (named Drifter in the SNSH Ranking) is a distemporal inhabitant of the galaxy. After spending several months on the decaying industrial planet of Vel, he decided not to accept his fate and with his partner, he started a long adventure to find the legendary Gate.
Drake used and the “drifter” nickname, reflecting his pointless, careless and undemanding lifestyle he used to have in his previous life - and what he also continued for a while after his resurrection. As a result, this is the short name with which he’s recorded to the SNSH list.
He was biologically 17 years old at the time of his death.
Drake was born into a post-apocalyptic planet hit by nuclear warheads among others millennia before; the majority of its surface was either deserted or has become hostile wastelands. He was born in the only self-sustained city nearby - thus, it was enormously big and overcrowded. Luckily for him, he was grown up in an arcology within the very core of said city, under much higher living standards.
He was born to a son of a wasteland scout and an arcology employee.
Leaving the Arcology
Drake lived in the arcology until 8, when an assault of local crime gangs caused emergency in part of the complex. The attackers captured some blocks, murdering and looting - during which, Drake was abducted and his mother killed. Eventually his father saved the young boy from the hands of the mafia; however, amidst the chaos, the family was declared dead and due to the unfortunate circumstances, they were never allowed back to the arcology.
Father and son had to build a new life from scratch on the streets of poverty, unemployment and organized crime; this led both quickly into the underworld. The boy learnt the basics of fighting, survival and spent a lot of time in the otherwise unreachable corners of the buildings by using grappling hooks. Soon it became his favorite free time activity, in a world where the only other option was addiction.
They lived a tough, but happy life together. His father taught Drake for the most basic of skills including reading, but also the way of survival in harsh conditions in order to prepare for anything. Things went downhill, however, and his father became an alcoholic. When he was 14, his father was killed in a street shooting, leaving Drake on his own.
Becoming an orphan, the young Drake left their home and started wandering on the streets, couch-surfing on occasion, and survived whatever way he could: working with crime gangs, fighting, trading on the black market, killing other gang members on demand and such. His easier past still haunted him and affected his abilities, so when it was offered, he acquired brain implants to improve his abilities - and some in his arms to become a professional user of grappling hooks.
He was 16 at this point and events were speeding up - Drake quickly gained extra reputation and went up on the echelon of his gang, which (alongside the sudden increase in his standards of living) got the attention of the law enforcement.
He had to escape from raids and ambushes more and more often - and despite his best attempts, at one point, when he was attempting to hide in an abandoned apartment, he ran into a cop who shot him without hesitation.
Drake died at the scene, and soon, he woke up in the galaxy.
Drake is a typical, maybe a little bit smaller than the average, young Caucasian male, with such facial features and white skin; moreover, he has greyish-green eyes and reddish-brown hair. His shape is somewhat thinner than the average, lacking heavier muscular sophistication, but also fat. His hair is long, reaching down to his shoulders; he usually wears it on them in a simple fashion, rarely holding it together.
He usually wears a pitch black, old, paling shirt, a pair of pale blue and a bit torn jeans, and a pair of brown, torn boots. He often wears a grayish-blue denim vest above his shirt, sometimes wearing it even without the shirt.
Faded light gray stripes are visible on the upper side of his forearms - these are the signs of his computerized grappling hook augmentations (see below). On his neck he has a long horizontal scar; sign of a deep, survived throat cut. On his back he has a tattoo, depicting a risen fist, the wrist of which originates from optic cables and circuits.
Shows slightly introvert signs: shy and has hard time with building relationships. Without any intention, can easily treat people badly. Moreover, he’s single-minded, often mistaking or failing at simple tasks and makes a lot of joke. However, because of the later harsh life, he’s bitter and depressive, with signs of antisocial tendencies, and can become aggressive easily in intensified situations and conflicts. He’s also careless and avoids responsibility, but this latter slowly changes as he’s getting closer to his aim.
The combination of these lead to some bizarre behavioral patterns: his conscience is very strong, making him stressful and feeling exaggerated guilt when he hurts people close to him. He escapes from reality and problems easily, often by drinking. He’s also very emotional, expressing whatever mood he has quite strongly - he can even cry easily. Although, after realizing his state, he becomes extremely ambitious, never ever giving up his aim and unconditionally supporting his friends - who he values above everything else.
Obsessive when it comes to technology, music and his friends.
Drake has basic skills at unarmed combat, but can handle bladed weapons efficiently. What he’s expert at is the handle of handguns, with decent accuracy over long distances.
He’s not sporty but to compensate, his agility and reflexes are enhanced thanks to a brain augmentation specifically residing in his ear. He also has an echolocation sensor in his brain that, to an extent makes him capable of navigation without seeing.
He’s also professional at using grappling hooks either to hide in high spots or to perform various acrobatic tricks - mostly only with his agility enhancer, though.
It should be noted that Drake is also a psyptor, partially hindered by his augs, but his creative application of abilities makes up for it. todo
Grappling hook augs
Built into his forearms, Drake constantly wears two motorized and computerized grappling hooks. While in his early days it worked with regular ropes, later on the improved it with Ethereal Runes. In this form, the hook itself is shot out without rope and via [metafocus], he builds up a special rope from a small nanofoam sample that can function like a very strong fibre cable. When the hook is retracted, the foam is disintegrated. By modifying certain properties, the hook can also be used as a harpoon.
A standard Nanoknife that can be easily folded out and retracted.
Rechargable laser pistol
A battery-based handgun, shooting ionized energy projectiles. Its strength can be adjusted up to the capacity of the battery, providing weak but quick firepower, but also can become slow and limited, but extremely powerful if necessary.
Rechargable laster rifle parts
Some accessories with which the pistol can be modified to a rifle, with bigger battery capacity, firepower and strength scale.
Recharchable laser cannon parts
Accessories for the rifle, to achieve outstanding and even devastating power. Rarely used.
